baking: oatmeal cherry cookies

so while others were baking christmas cookies, i was sick
in bed, not moving
so i owe my family some fresh baked morsels of yum
start with half a pound of butter
add 1 cup of brown sugar and half a cup of granulated sugar
mix until creamy
add two eggs and a teaspoon of vanilla and mix well
add one and a half cups of flour, a teaspoon of baking soda and a teaspoon of salt and mix
next add 3 cups of quick oats and dried cherries and mix
bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes on an ungreased cookie sheet
cool on rack
and enjoy!
with love,

cooking: chicken noodle soup

its two days before christmas and instead of making cookies
i am whipping up a vat of chicken noodle soup
i have been sick for way too long and am in need of my cure all
... not to mention i hate campbells chicken noodle soup
they skimp on just about everything!
start by boiling your chicken
i used breast pieces with skin but you could easily have used leg quarters
add chicken bouillon
i used about 6 XL cubes
you can make your chicken stock from the water and the chicken
but i am looking for short cuts... i'm sick
cut up your vegs
let your broth and chicken boil for ad least half an hour
you want to make sure the chicken is completely cooked through
cut your chicken up in pieces
using the breasts made this part super easy
no bones to deal with!
toss your chicken and vegs back into the broth
reduce heat to medium
after 5 minutes add your extra wide egg noodles and stir away
once the noodles are just about done i remove the pot from the burner
this allows the soup to steep and for the vegs and noodles to finish cooking
i also make sure that the vegs are a little firm
since there is a huge pot of soup and we microwave the left overs
i want to make sure everything doesn't turn to mush
this is a great and hearty meal
everyone always asks for more!

cleaning: stainless steel kitchen sink

one of the wonders in our rental is our sink
its stainless steel
its tough
its durable
and has taken a beating
so i decided to show some love with a good ole' scrubby dub-dub
so first things first... the garbage disposal
it smells exactly of what it is named so lets deodorize
i always have a stash of half used lemons
but you could use any citrus in fact!
so take your fruit and chuck it on in...
followed by a hefty sprinkle of baking soda
douse with cold water and grind till you no longer hear the fruit grindin' away
this will ultimately get the stank out the sink!
to sharpen the blades of your garbage disposal empty all your crusty ice into the sink
and grind with cold water
i use a wooden spoon to feed the ice into the disposal
obviously... you don't want to use your fingers.
now onto the cleaning part
plug your sink
fill with one cup of vinegar
fill with warm water until the bottom is just covered
soak your cleaning cloth
let rest for 15 minutes
and then scrub away!
for added shine you can use windex, baby oil, or olive oil
i used windex because i don't want the greasy feel after all my hard work!
look at that shine!
there ya have it!
